ROUND ONE: Nicole vs. S. Sculpey

It was an intense battle. Nicole molded to the best of her abilitys, and the sculpey put up a fight. He twisted, turned and kicked up a storm! It was a long, hard battle but ultimately Nicole threw in the towel.

OK SO it didnt go very well actually. I was trying to use the foil instead of the wire but the foil doesnt really stay in place, so when you are putting the clay on top of it, its moving around, changing shape.

AND im also going to make it on the board. Im at work right now and there is probably something around here I can use.

TO DO LIST

- Get wire
-Get board for sculpture

Ill be posting up my progress on those tasks and the pictures from my first attempt once I get home.

TIME ON PROJECT: 2 hours (excluding the time to get the materials)

*** DAY 1 of Sculpture ***

OK so I went to Loomis and Tools today to get the Super Sculpey. I wasnt expecting it to be $15.95 before tax (grrr..) but hey, its almost the end of the semester so whatever haha. I picked up some tools as well, to help me get fine detail into the character. The tools were on sale so that was good :D

I only got the wooden ones that have sharp edges and one rounded one. I didnt get any of the craving ones cause the super sculpey isnt like clay, so i think itll be easy just to smooth somethign out, not just carve big chunks out.

Now, be warned that I havent done any of this sculpting stuff since...*thinks* grade 11? Maybe it was grade 12. Either way it was a long ass time ago! Haha. So, Im hoping I can do something somewhat cool. I have some ideas but I just gotta play with this goop a bit and go with whatever looks best I guess.

I was going to get some of that wire stuff, to wrap around my hanger man Im going to make, but then it said it would work just as good with aluminum foil..and I have tons of that shit at home. I want to get one done by the middle next week in case I mess it up trying to cook that bitch. If it doesnt go well, I'll have time to do it over again! But lets hope it doesnt get to that point, haha! Well, Ill update this the second I get some ideas down. Its been a long day today. My eyes are starting to burn.

OH good news though - My cough is starting to go away finally (yay!)

** Daily update: I have some pics for the texture assignment that Im going to throw up on here in a bit, BUT heres whats been going on.

Finished off Module 3: The advertisement. I choose to do billiard balls, and although the quality on here isnt that great ( i had to .bmp it) it turned out pretty phat, so I was happy. I went with a classic, simple one.

The original image was just the man playing pool in full color. I colored in everything in the background and him and dropped the hue down on the picture, which made it black and white. I wanted to keep the pool table and balls in full color so that the eye would be attracted to it. I added the balls in the bottom left corner, doing the same thing with the hue and dropping the opacity down, to have them fade in.

To finish it off, I put the magazine shit in the bottom corner,to make it look like a real ad. I took the style from XXL magazine, just changed it up a bit to add in the page number and date. I like it :)

FINAL PROJECT!

We are in the home stretch now of first semester, and I think a lot of people are starting to feel that. Its pretty intense. So much to do, so little time.

OK, new project: Sculpting. I have some idears bopping around my head but we'll see what happens. Im going to get some super sculpty on Thursday probably and start playing around with it asap. I still have to do the pictures one that was just assigned! Lots to do this week, and next week..so its time to make some coffee and begin, haha.

Just added in the final touches to the ad for Jos class. Im pretty happy with the way it turned out (yay!)...Ill throw up some images in a bit. Gotta finish coloring in my storyboards and then some Zzzz's.

Saturday, November 18, 2006

Sooo here I am at work on another Saturday. These 9-6 shifts are killing me! haha.

Just posting this up to recap on the week.

Monday - Handed skatedecks into Andrew. It was good to see what everyone had done for their design. There were a lot of cool things! :) Pub night should be phat to see what everyone did, and see what this one has to offer since I didnt get a chance to really stick around the time before due to a midterm for Pyschology the next day.

Tuesday - Jos new assignment + Tores new assignment. Left school right after cause I was suppose to go to this show, but if I knew I wasnt going to go (Suffocation), I probably wouldnt have left school right away and stuck around to finish shit up.

Wednesday - Guns and Roses : : :

Thursday - Work.

Friday - Stuck around mad late to finish up on some of the video work I had to redo/catch up with.

To be honest, I havent even started Andrews assignment since we didnt get it until late Thursday, leaving only Friday when I could have. Now, Im at work. I wish we got that email before...heh.

Anyway, Ill post when I get some progress on something do. Im going to do the storyboards for Tore while Im here and maybe work on some stuff for Psy. Quiz on Wednesday!

Thursday, November 16, 2006

As the deck is now done..time to move onto some other projects. Im just going to say that there were a lot of REALLY well done designs. It was a lot of fun seeing what other people in my class did with their ideas and it should be cool to see the rest of DMAs work during pub night!

Im going to get started on Jos project, Tore's storyboards and then tonight at work, probably map out some things for Psychology.

SUM IT UP FOR ME DAWG!

Just to break it down one last time, Im going to sum up the process.

Doodling/Brainstorming/Thinking/Getting drawings onto paper : 12 hours.
-----This ranged everything from coming up with ideas in my head, the original doodles I did when Andrew was assigning the project (I think its on the first post I made), drawing the final copy, outlining it with marker, scanning.

Working on it in Photoshop/Illustrator: 20 hours
-----This ranged from deleting allthe marks my scanner dragged into the picture, fixing up all the black lines, trying different colors out, adding effects, removing things I didnt like, etc.etc. This was the longest process for sure since I had to keep going back, fixing everything, changes things I wanted...you know. I learned a lot though by experimenting with things! Which is something I know will be thankful for, when it comes to other projects and shit.

Going to get the skateboard to mount the sticker on: 2 hours
-----It took me a while to get to the mall and get it, and get home. Nothing interesting along the way, but let me tell you...shopping at the mall near Christmas is retarded. Hahaha

Reaching the final product and getting it ready to go: 1.5 hours
----- This includes everything from practice runs on it, actually sticking it down, flattening, trimming edges, making sure it was stuck on, leaving it to adhese for a bit... and all that gooodstuff. It seems a bit long, but I was being very slow with it. And throw the amount of time I was just sitting, staring at it...afraid to begin in the thought I might fuck it up (hah)
---------------------------------

Total amount of hours: 35.5 hours
*the word hours is beginning to lose meaning for me right now. Haha.

COST

1 print job : $30.00 (thank you again, Willy)
1 board : $17.00 ( i think it was like...$15.99 + taxies)
---------------------------------

total cash: $47.00

35.5 hours and 47 bones later, I have one kick ass final product. Doop Doop! Its happy times for me, Id say. There are some really cool designs that are going to pop up tomorrow, I know it for sure. I already saw some that I think look wicked so Andrew is in for quite the treat :)

WHAT A DOPE PROJECT!

Pub night: Nov. 21, 2006 ----> Be there or be square.
FINNITO!!!

Alright guys here is the final product!!!

The trimming went well, the edges are as smooth as they going to be...and WOW it looks great. Im really happy with the final turn out. Like I said before, the design itself wasnt what I had envisioned but I like what it finally turned out to be. Mounting it on the deck really made it stand out and look like a 'final piece'. Yay!

:) Im pretty happy with it all!
Theres a better picture for you guys to see...From top to bottom. I like the greens A LOT. I think if I had printed it once before...I would have changed a couple things and re-printed it. But hey, its looking pretty good though and I cant complain :)
STICKIN' AROUND

Now its game time!!! We were about to stick the oversized sticker onto the board. There were no pictures of this production because it was 100% concentration. Justin and I propped the skateboard onto a chair, just to make it easier for us to see what was going on + to lay it flat, so it wouldnt move back and forth.

We peeled off the first 4 inches (or so) of the sticker, and stuck it to the board. Justin matted it down, as I held the rest of the paper up/straight so it wouldnt bubble or stick in a silly, out of line position.

Little by little, I would peel the sticker off, and Justin would stick it onto the board and smooth it out. This took about 5 minutes to get it on, and looking fly. I ended up not having any bubbles, which was great since it was one of my main concerns.

Yeah I know, I dont have the cleanest room, but schucks guys its been a busy week. Howeveer, this was the board laying down on the chair, with the sticker now stuck onto it. You can see the sticker was a bit longer, so it needed some trimmin down.

Heres a good shot, you can see exactly where the board is, and where it begins to curve into the head/nose. Once it was all done, all along the edges we ran a screwdriver on the sides, just to make sure it would trim off nicely and smooth. It defined the cruves more which was great (being able to see exactly where to nik the edges off). Yay!

What a relief!

Now, the trimming part had me kinda nervous as well. I hadnt trimmed a sticker before so I didnt know how it was going to cut. I was hoping for the best but at this point I really didnt have a choice. I looked for the sharpest knife in the house (the eksatco (sp?) knives, that is...). Theyhave those blades that you can snap off and then they are like brand new again! So that was good. I got Justin to snap off the edges actually, just cause I didnt want to stab my eyeballs out and away it went!

I did some practice runs on the shit that was coming off for sure...and it actually cut really nicely which was great! But it was time to put everything together and get' er done.

Going along the edges of the board with the knive was pretty smooth....stresssssful. But hey, cuts like butter :)

PRE PRINT

OK so this is how it looked when i got the sticker. I used a magnet just to stick it up onto my fridge to show you everything. Yeah, thats me giving the thumbs up to the awesome print job.

So its printed out and ready to go at this point!!! I was excited but nervous cause:

1. I only had 1 board.
2. I only had 1 sticker.
3. I had 0 time to get a new one of each.

It was hit or miss at this point....it had to be done right. Obviously, it would have been impossible for me to lay it down, and make it nice and good by myself, since I dont have 17 hands. I have 2 hands, and 4 hands is better than 2 (remember kids: 4 > 2). I got Justin to help me do some practice runs on how it was going to be set down once I peeled the back off, making it sticky.

I took a smoke break at this point and prepared for the big moment.

OK, so this entry gets special writing. Why you ask? Cause Im finished the board! I have pictures coming later when I get home (Im at work right now). Now heres how the process went.

Pre-Print
Wednesday night: Sent the file of my design to Will.
Thursday: Will throws the design into the shop - ready to pick up on Friday

Post-Print
Friday: Got the print out from Willy. Like I said before, it printed out prettynice and I was really, really happy with it being a sticker. And, what it worked out to be was about the same price for the sticker as it would have been to print it by the square foot and Kinkos. I think for glossy paper there its about 12.99/sq. foot (since they charge oversized).

Now, Originally I wasnt intending on sticking it to an actual skateboard. I figured that there would be too much risk doing that, just in case it didnt turn out primo. BUT the idea was always floating around in my mind.
Although, the more and more I thought about it, I think it would look pretty rad on a board, not only to hand in as a final piece, but something I can hang onto for a while. I also figured that it might be difficult to stick two pieces of foam core together to make it look cool just cause one sheet wouldnt be long enough. - soooo going with the skateboard was how it was done. So on top of getting my board sized sticker on, I got a board at Wal Mart..doop doop doop.

Saturday: So after work, this was the big day to get shit done with. let me tell you I was WORRIED cause it was a one shot deal. I didnt have any mroe board or stickers so if it turned out like shit,...then I was screwwwwed.

...Ill update later with pictures on how it went : :

Holla!

OK heres the scoop. The skate deck = done! Its all printed out onto a sticker and it looks pretty alright! :) TO be honest, its not what I envisioned it to come out like, but hey...I like it so whats the big problemo eh .

Imma get a snap shot of it tonight and throw it up on here. The last 2 days have just kinda FLOWN by so I havent had a chance to sit my butt down and get into my bloggin' style. I grabbed a board yesterday at Walmart and if all goes to plan, my sticker will look mighty badass. If you guys see me with foam core, its because it DIDNT turn out nice and I had to go see those pricks at Kinkos for print job #2., Hah!

But heres a couple things I have learned doing this project.

1. Estimate the amount of time you think you are going to work on something. Then double it. Or even triple it in some cases.

2. Dont try and get everything done all in one shot. Not only does it make you want to blow your brains out, but chances are the more and mroe tired you get...the more your work is going to look like shitballs.

3. Protect your work. (my DMA class will know what Im talking about).

All the time I spent doing this probably doesnt even account for the all the hours I spent THINKING about it.

Now, 1 more thing. BIG THANK YOUs go out to 2 people.

A fuckin' K (alex): one of the few people who were around at 1:30am, busting out those late nights and helping keep me sane with good music, good jokes, advice/observations/opinions and all around goodness.
Willy: same thing as AK and ++ for printing. And even though neither of these guys are probably going to read this blog, I appreciate all the advice/help.

BUT as a finale, Im going home tonight (when I get off work), throwing on some Sikfuk ( \m/ )
and gonna get that sticker on the board, trim it done and make sweet love to it if it looks alright! Haha...

Ill let you know how it turns out.

Top of the mornin' guys. Its 11:24am and Ive been cracking on this skatedeck for about an hour and a half Id say. Yes, Im suppose to be in class...but frankly, Im sick and feel awful so Im hybernating today (acutally I have to go get mommie something for her birthday today). But Im going to get this all finished up with and Ill post the final pics afterwards. Ive been making progress, so just to let you guys in on it, voila!

I think I wanna leave some of the pebbles and stuff white, if its all colored in I think it will look poopie. But then if I leave it uncolored...it might look unfinished! Nowhaddamean? Ill have to see. The color is turning out alright.Im sticking to Photoshop still, as Illustrator doesnt really offer me what I wanna do (unless it does and I just havent figured out how to work it lol)

So here the head of the grim reaper. ^ I need to straighten out the black hood on the left hand side, cause its wider on the top of the blade than it is on the bottom. Other than that, I feel pretty good about it. I might addin some yellows or greens in his face, but really SMALL amounts.

Theres so you guys can see the beautiful color. See,I thought I would do it this way instead of taking screenshots, just so you guys can see just this but apparently not (since its all pixelated) so screenshots from now on!

Ill be here all day, so this first hour and a half was nothing.Ill keep updating when I hit some major progress. Still gotta get the P*70 logo on this muh fugga too.

Tuesday, November 07, 2006

well this was loaded pretty damn pixelated eh..haha. There you go, though! theres the skatedeck template right now. I know theres some lines to crispen up..AND then whole bottom end isnt even colored yet but thats what we are looking at!

I still need to throw in the P*70 logo (which Andrew does know it is really awful) haha.

Its 12:22am..and Im getting tired. I really hope Im not getting sick..cause I need to spend at least 5 hour hours on this. AT LEAST. Not all tonight, but I wanna hit up another hour tonight and then finish it off tomorrow, get it into the printer by Thursday.

So much to do, so little time! I need to learn how to pull all nighters like Angel, andnot fall asleep!

You can see how I got this picture from the sketches I did..Im hoping when I color everything in, itll look badass. If it doesnt, people will die. (hehe).

Ill prolly throw up the final portion of tonight after I work on it for another little bit, so you guys can see how its turning out. Until then, you can enjoy this masterpiece (heheh)

Heres a quick screenshot of my image that Im working on right now. Its going okay, but to be honest, taking a lot more time doing everything than I thought it would. Ive been going at the color for over an hour. The reason why its taking me so long is just trying to get it lookin the way I had in my head. LOL, i realised its probably not going to happen...so Im just fiddlin around to make it look as close as I possibly can. I want to have this done by tonight or at the lastest tomorrow.

I think the red is pretty good. Im not sure 100% but we'll see after when everything else is colored in. Ill just bust out some more layers and try out a whole bunch. Ill prolly post those up so you guys can take a sneak peak.

Ill throw some details up in a bit when mroe comes along. I just wanted to show you guys what I was up to right now! So for tonight...just over one hour and counting....

BREAK TIME

Im just taking a time out to post up some other stuff Im doing in school. Jo class = we are working on tracing a logo. We had to pick a logo from either NBA, NHL or NFL team. Clearly, anyone who is anyone would be doing an NHL logo cause everything else is not cool (lol, i kid). I couldnt rep the leafs as the logo is too easy, so I traced out the Buffalo Sabres.

Oddly enough, Saturday was the THIRD time we had beaten them on thier home ice since 2000 :: so maybe I should do an Ottawa Senators logo just for shits and giggles and see if anything happens. Heh, well, using the pen tool in illustrator + layers, We were tracing out the logos. It was hard for me, cause I hadnt used the pen tool much, only what we did in Jos class way back. But, a couple hours later I caught on (haha) and spent last week working on it. And voila!

Here is the final image. Yea, so I printed screened twice tonight, so sue me. I know it needs a little bit of work by the right ear (the white there) but that wont take long to fix up. Enjoy!
SUPPPPPP

Sunday night: 9:13pm. Let me tell you one thing, I am maddd tired. Just a run down of the show last night : amazing. Best show Ive seen in a loong time : Cumgun were fucking crazy and got the crowd going for sureee. Orchidectomy played after and GEEEEZ, it was a bomb set (best of the night) ..Lapidate killed it as always, and Disgust closed it off with a nice set. But yeah, I got about 5 hours of sleep and missioned back to Toronto so Im a wee bit sleepieeeee.

But you cool cats can check out this video if you wanna see some awesome Ontario brutal death.

Hahahaha BACK TO BIZZZNESSSSSS

Project HELLBOARD: Progress

Last time we checked in, I had scanned everything in and got rid of all the junk on my scanner. Thats all finished up now and tonight I got everything down pat and threw all the sizes together, slapped them into my template to add the colors in. Im rocking in Photoshop right now. I got it all to line up (yay!) and Im coloring in everythign else.

So each Layer is representing each pieve of what I scanned in (3 in total) and the final one is with the black in the hood as well. The color is coming now, dont you worry...its going to look mad sick. Im going to go with cool colors (i think) instead of the warm ones. I was playing around with some of the ideas today and just having FUN with the picture and thought of a dope background.

WHen Im using the paint option (still in PS), up the brush stroke size, and lower the hardness to get that "hazy" look and make some clouds behind the grim reeper..give it a spooky look. It looked alright when I was doing it, but tomorrow when Im going full throttle, Ill post some images for you guys to see what the deal is. Laying in the image into the grid, getting the black filled in, tweeking the image a bit... and getting the lines matching up took about 3 hours id say. It took a bit, cause I kept messing up on the sizing. I got it going now and its doooope. Ive been all over the place tonight so its been taking me a bit to get it all done though.

But alas, Im done with this one for tonight! Gotta move on to some other funky stuff...

Sibbity Sup!

Last night when I got home from school I started scanning my photos in, filling in the eyes and lining it up onto illutrator. TO be perfectly honest, I didnt think it was going to be as difficult lining everything up as I thought it was going to be.

It look me about 2 hours :@ just to get everything scanned in, deleting random shit that the scanner picked up and trying to line it all right (which its not even exact) Grrr....

Im somewhat stressing about coloring it and shit. Its going to take a bit of time...and Im just hoping its going to turn out the way I want it to (and how it looks in my head haha).

Im at work today from 9-6, and Im going right to Cambridge. I really shouldnt go, cause of everything I need to get done...but I need a break!!! If I stick myself behind this computer everyday all day without a tinky little break Im going to go insane. Im sure itll be a good time, I might bring my camera out and snap some photos for you all to enjoy! :D

Orchidectomy :)

Ill give you the update on Sunday night to show you guys the progress and let you know how the metal show went!

Have an awesome Saturday and Sunday, hope everyones boards are going well.

Props to Alex & Willy though..definetly designing some WICKED boards for you cool cats to check out.

Sup folks!

So Ive mad some progress just thought I would throw up whats going on to date. I posted one of the drawings & the doodle that created this mess (lol) last time. The last couple days Ive been tweeking the original image and heres what the plan is.

The quality of the photos arent that great though. I had to snap shot a few while I was at work, but ill get some more decent ones going in a tiddily bit.

I got the final images of layed out to what I wanted on the board and traced them out with a good ol' sharpie..this way when i scan everything in itll work. I drew everything to size so Im going to scan them in - send them into photobucket for the color - and then copy each one over to the skatedeck template.

I now introduce you to HELL BOARD

This is about 1/3 of the board. Bottom half mainly. Skulls, Coffins, everything looks badass. Ride or die muthafucka!
Wow these images look awful, dont they? Ill get some good ones up soon. This is the basic outline for my grim reaper. He is going to look aweeesome when hes done, make everything tie in together. The only thing Im going to do now is draw out the font I want. I like the ones in the sketch that I did, so I might blow that one up and trace it out.

Here it is, up close in all its glory. Its really basic now, like I said, without any color, but just wait til these get throw into PS and shhhhiiiiii its going to be masterpiece ( i hope, haha)

Thats the full image (kind of). It really looks like its behind 17 mirrors and swimming in a puddle the way the cam is. You get the idea though eh! Not too shabby if I may say so myself.

Now that Jos logo is done (i had to do a Buffalo logo which Ill post up after) Im going to straight focus on this. Tonight = scanning everything in. And Friday and Sunday are the intense days. I would say Saturday but Im heading up to Cambridge for this dope ass metal fest. I may take my camera up and let you guys see the awesome metal scene up there. Who is on the bill, you ask?
Cumgun
Orchidectomy
Lapidate
Disgust
Those are the only ones needed to be mentioned. It should be fun.

Anyway! back to the board...I still gotta incorporate that into the design ( i think I got a cool idea I was shooting around to some of the homies yesterday) but Ill post it up when I get it down into paper.

But yes, thats where I am right now...stayed tuned for the magic!
